About the Director

Jules Layman has been involved in Montessori education for over 30 years. She has an AMI Teaching Credential from London, England and has extensive experience teaching at both the toddler and primary levels.

For 10 years Jules was the Head of School at Marin Montessori School in Corte Madera. She left that position after her youngest of two children graduated from MMS in the 6th grade, so that she could be more available for them in their middle and high school years. They are now young adults, so Jules brings over 20 years of parenting to her work.

Jules opened Village Montessori in 1998.

Montessori Around the World

One of Jules' interests is to connect Montessori programs around the world serving children in need with available resources, and to that end she created a website www.montessoriaroundtheworld.org

The year 2007 marked the 100th anniversary of the first Montessori school which opened in San Lorenzo, Rome. It served some of the poorest children in the city and it was there that Dr. Montessori discovered the secret of childhood; the incredible learning force that drives a totally dependent newborn into a competent and independent three year old.
